75 Hard Attempt #4 Day 1: Back to the Pool
Attempt #4. Day 1.
Well.
Here we are again.
Attempt number four.
And you know what?
I'm not upset about it.
Every restart has shown me something.
Every restart has highlighted a gap.
And at this point, I'm less interested in proving I can do 75 Hard and more interested in building a life that supports the habits I'm trying to create.
So Wednesday became Day 1.
Again.
Starting Early
I woke up around 5 a.m.
And this time I wasn't leaving anything up to chance.
I got dressed and headed straight to the gym.
No debating.
No negotiating.
No telling myself I'd do it later.
Just get up and go.
On the way, I grabbed a latte.
No pistachio.
No syrup.
No sugar.
Just coffee and milk.
And it was delicious.
I know there are people who would tell me I'd lose weight faster if I gave up dairy completely.
They're probably right.
I'd probably have a flatter stomach too.
But at this point, I'm more interested in making changes I can actually sustain.
Letting go of most of the sugar has already made a huge difference.
The milk can stay.
At least for now.
Back in the Pool
When I got to the gym, I headed straight for the pool.
This time I did 45 minutes of kickboard laps.
Nothing fancy.
Just steady movement.
Back and forth.
Back and forth.
Back and forth.
I actually enjoy swimming.
There's something meditative about it.
The rhythm.
The repetition.
The focus.
And unlike walking the hills, my joints don't complain nearly as much.
After the pool, I headed to the spa.
And that might be one of my favorite parts of these mornings.
I sat in the hot water and read my book.
I'm still working through it.
And if I'm being real, this one is a struggle.
I keep comparing it to The River of Doubt.
That book completely pulled me in.
This one?
Not so much.
But pages are pages.
And reading the whole book isn't the goal.
Building the habit is.
Work, Water & Roll-Ups
From there, it was off to work.
The day itself was pretty uneventful.
Which is not a complaint.
Sometimes uneventful is exactly what you need.
I kept working my way through my water.
And for lunch, I had my trusty roll-ups:
turkey
provolone
pickle
Simple.
Portable.
Easy.
Exactly why I keep making them.
Taco Night
By the time dinner rolled around, I was ready.
And thankfully it was taco night.
One of my favorite nights.
I ordered:
two fish tacos
one carne asada taco
rice
beans
avocado
Delicious.
And because I hadn't really eaten many carbs throughout the day, I wasn't worried about the rice and beans.
Everything fits when you look at the whole day instead of obsessing over one meal.
And honestly?
The tacos were worth it.
Full Body at 6:30
At 6:30, I taught my Zoom workout.
Full body.
Upper body.
Lower body.
Cardio.
The whole package.
It felt good to move again after sitting in the car and working most of the day.
And more importantly, it checked off workout number two before the evening had a chance to get away from me.
Lesson learned.
Do the important things early.
Finishing the Day
I finished my gallon of water around 9 p.m.
And I swear I was asleep by about 9:10.
The combination of swimming, work, a full-body workout, and getting up at 5 a.m. completely wiped me out.
No scrolling.
No staying up.
No second wind.
Just sleep.
What I'm Noticing
I think every restart has taught me the same lesson from a different angle.
Don't leave important things until later.
When I leave my workout for later, life gets in the way.
When I leave my water for later, life gets in the way.
When I leave my reading for later, life gets in the way.
Life isn't the problem.
Life is always going to happen.
The solution is creating a structure that works with real life instead of fighting against it.
That's what I'm trying to build.
Not perfection.
Not punishment.
A system.
One that supports the person I want to become.
And today felt like a step in that direction.
Attempt #4 Day 1 Complete
45 minutes of kickboard laps.
Reading in the spa.
Turkey roll-ups.
Taco night.
A full-body workout.
And a gallon of water.
