75 Hard Day 17: The Day I Failed & Had to Start Over
Tuesday — Day 17.
Day 17 started better.
I got up a little earlier today.
6:30.
Whoo hoo.
No alarm either.
I actually woke up closer to 6 but laid around for a few minutes before finally getting moving.
And after the slower mornings from the trip, it felt good getting back into a slightly earlier rhythm again.
Morning Walk + Starbucks Breakfast
I started the day with my walk through the neighborhood hills.
Up and down again.
At this point, those hills are becoming their own character in this story.
And because I had in-person clients today, breakfast ended up being Starbucks again.
Even with all the planning and resetting I did Monday…
I still didn’t prep food for the week.
So breakfast became:
oatmeal with brown sugar
a latte with 2 pumps espresso
Not ideal planning.
But still workable.
Working Alongside My Daughter
The morning was busy.
And my adult daughter came with me while I worked.
She’s been using my work energy to help propel herself into focusing on her own studies.
So while I was with clients, she would sit nearby working on her own things.
And it was actually really nice having her there.
There’s something powerful about focused energy rubbing off on the people around you.
Lunch at the Country Café
For lunch, we stopped at a little country café, La Barista, and got sandwiches.
Mine was:
turkey
avocado
sprouts
bell peppers
pepperoncinis
onion
provolone
sourdough bread
I only ate half and saved the rest for later.
And lately I’m noticing my portions naturally getting smaller without really trying.
Borrowing the Dog for My Walk
After work, we headed to my friend’s house for dinner.
But before we ate, I borrowed her dog and took her on my second 45-minute walk.
And this dog has ENERGY.
The kind of energy where she normally bounces off the walls and constantly begs people to throw toys for her.
But after 45 minutes?
She was done.
Not fully laid out on the floor exhausted…
but definitely calmer than usual.
Which felt satisfying.
Dinner + Poke Bowls
Dinner was poke bowls:
salmon
ahi
jalapeños
avocado
wakame
garlic flakes
roe
green papaya
radishes
half rice
half greens
Fresh. Filling. Perfect after such a warm day.
We didn’t actually eat until almost 8:30 though because her son had his senior awards ceremony at the high school that night.
He won a few awards.
But his girlfriend won like three times as many.
So I’d say he’s on a pretty good path.
He clearly has good taste in women. I love her.
Trash TV Traditions
After dinner, we watched the first 45 minutes of The Crash on Netflix.
We love trash TV together.
Things like:
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
The Real Housewives of anywhere
the P. Diddy documentaries
So this one was right up our alley.
We decided we’ll finish the second half next week.
And apparently there’s also a Mean Girl Murders episode on Hulu that goes even deeper into “The Crash,” so that’s officially on the horizon too.
The Moment Everything Fell Apart
Things were going great…
until I started winding down around 9:30.
And then I realized:
I still had:
16 ounces of water left
pages still unread
So I laid down to read.
And the next thing I knew…
it was 1:30 in the morning.
I fell asleep.
Which means technically…
I failed 75 Hard.
And after 17 days, it looks like tomorrow becomes Day 1 again.
What I’m Realizing
The interesting thing is…
I’m not even upset the way I thought I would be.
Because even though I technically failed the challenge, I didn’t fail myself.
For 17 days:
I moved my body every day
drank more water than I probably ever have
ate in a way that supported my body
slept better
felt less swollen
felt more energized
built routines that actually helped me
And none of that disappears because I accidentally fell asleep reading.
So yes.
Tomorrow is Day 1 again.
But I’m restarting from experience this time.
Not from zero.
Day 17 Complete
Not perfect.
Not finished.
Still worth it.
