75 Hard Restart Day 12: Lake Yoga, Kayaking & Living Into the Season

Restart Day 12.

Sunday felt like one of those days where there wasn't anything particularly exciting happening.

No airports.

No travel chaos.

No major plans.

Just life.

That felt pretty wonderful.

We woke up around our normal time, somewhere around 6:30.

For most people that probably sounds early.

For us, that's sleeping in.

We're definitely early birds.

I spent the morning slowly moving through the things that help me feel organized and grounded.

Planning the Month Ahead

One thing I really enjoy is creating my schedules.

Not because I love being busy.

But because I love being intentional.

I spent part of the morning working on my June schedule.

Contacting clients.

Confirming appointments.

Making sure everything was where it needed to be.

From there, I started working on my seasonal dinner menu.

I love planning meals around the season.

Making sure we're eating foods that fit the weather, the energy of the month, and my goals.

I also worked on my embodiment schedule.

I know that sounds a little funny to some people.

But I genuinely like living into the seasons.

I like creating experiences around the month.

I like having activities planned.

Foods that fit the season.

Little adventures.

Ways to actually enjoy the life I'm building instead of just rushing through it.

Because what's the point of creating a life if you never stop to enjoy it?

Reading Before Yoga

Before teaching yoga, I got my reading done.

I ended up sitting in my car while waiting for people to arrive for class and used that time to knock out my pages.

One thing I've learned from this challenge is that reading doesn't have to happen in some perfect setting.

You just find the time when the time presents itself.

And that day, the time happened to be in a parking lot before yoga.

Lake Yoga

Then it was time to teach yoga at the lake.

One of my favorite places to be.

There is something special about moving your body outdoors.

The water.

The breeze.

The sunshine.

The birds.

It's one of those things that never gets old for me.

And after class, instead of heading straight home, I decided to stay.

Kayaking With Friends

A couple of girlfriends joined me and we spent the next hour kayaking.

That hour may have been the highlight of my day.

No agenda.

No productivity.

No checking things off a list.

Just being out on the water.

Talking.

Laughing.

Enjoying the day.

Sometimes those simple moments end up being the most memorable.

Lunch With My Partner

After kayaking, my partner took me out to lunch.

And lunch was amazing.

I ordered a tostada mixta loaded with:

  • crab

  • shrimp

  • squid

  • octopus

  • avocado

  • tomatoes

  • onions

All the good stuff.

And if I'm being real, I tend to get more excited about shellfish than I do fish.

Give me the crab.

Give me the shrimp.

Give me the octopus.

I am a very happy girl.

It was fresh.

Flavorful.

And exactly what sounded good after spending the morning outside.

Grocery Shopping & Meal Prep

After lunch, we did some grocery shopping.

Nothing glamorous.

Just real life.

And grocery shopping feels a lot less stressful when you've already planned your meals.

I also put together a couple of breakfast meal preps for the days this week when I'll be out of the house early.

Future Heather appreciates when current Heather does things like that.

Dinner

For dinner, I made taco bowls.

Simple.

Easy.

Filling.

One of those meals everyone seems happy with.

At that point, we were all moving pretty slowly.

Nobody had much ambition left.

The day had a very relaxed energy to it.

Sunday Cleaning Debate

Now, my partner has this thing about cleaning on Sundays.

He loves it.

He wants everything reset and perfect before the week begins.

Me?

Not so much.

It's not that I don't clean.

I absolutely do.

I just don't want to spend my Sundays doing it.

I've learned that I enjoy my weekends a lot more when they're reserved for living.

Yoga.

Kayaking.

Friends.

Planning.

Resting.

Being outside.

Enjoying the season.

My big cleaning day is usually the first day I'm back home after working out of the house.

For example, if I have in-person clients on Tuesday and Wednesday, then Thursday becomes my reset day.

That's when I do the deep cleaning.

The laundry.

The floors.

The bathrooms.

The dusting.

All the things.

I like starting with a clean slate so I can fully enjoy my time afterward.

It's one of those little systems I've built that works really well for me.

Because when Sunday rolls around, I don't want to spend the day scrubbing.

I want to enjoy it.

I want to read.

Plan the month.

Create seasonal menus.

Teach yoga.

Go kayaking.

Spend time with people I love.

And because I've already handled the cleaning earlier in the week, I can do exactly that.

So while my partner was happily cleaning on Sunday, I was happily doing Sunday my way.

And somehow we've managed to make both approaches work.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

Before the day was over, I stepped on the scale.

And while this is only Day 12 of the restart, it's actually been 29 days since I started this journey the first time.

And as of today...

I'm down 10 pounds.

Ten pounds.

And what feels most exciting isn't even the number.

It's how different I feel.

Less achy.

Less swollen.

More energy.

Fewer headaches.

Better mobility.

My joints don't complain every time I stand up.

I'm not groaning when I get out of the car.

And my body feels like it's working with me again.

The funny thing is that these last 29 days haven't been perfect.

I've restarted.

I've traveled across the country.

I've eaten at airports.

I've navigated graduations, delayed flights, hotel breakfasts, and restaurant meals.

I've had days where my workouts were amazing.

And days where I was exhausted.

But I kept coming back.

And I think that's the lesson.

Progress doesn't come from perfection.

It comes from consistency over time.

Twenty-nine days ago, I decided to start.

Twelve days ago, I decided to restart.

Today I'm 10 pounds lighter.

And a whole lot more connected to the life I'm trying to build.

Finishing the Day

The only thing left was finishing my water.

And somehow that still took me until almost 9 PM.

At this point, I've fully accepted that I'm just drinking most of my water later in the day.

Would some people tell me I should drink it earlier?

Probably.

Am I still getting it done?

Also yes.

So for now, we're rolling with it.

What I'm Noticing on Restart Day 12

I think one of the biggest gifts of this challenge has been the reminder that health doesn't only happen through workouts and food.

It also happens through enjoyment.

Through connection.

Through being outside.

Through creating a life that actually feels good to live.

Because the goal isn't just to lose weight.

Or drink water.

Or complete workouts.

The goal is to create a lifestyle that supports the person you're becoming.

And for me, that lifestyle includes:

  • lake yoga

  • kayaking

  • seasonal meals

  • planning adventures

  • spending time with people I love

  • enjoying the seasons as they happen

That's the stuff that makes the healthy habits feel worth it.
